Matlab to GMAT support on win64 systems

Postby bad.bharat » Tue Jan 25, 2011 2:42 am

Hi All,

I am trying to learn running GMAT scripts from Matlab. I have a 64-bit win 7 system with Matlab win64 r2009b and GMAT latest build (09-30-2008) installed. Initially GMAT was giving me an error "Libmx.dll" is not found. I added the path "<Matlab_dir>\bin\win64" dir and other required DLLs dir path to the "path" variable. Now Gmat has started giving me the error "Application was unable to start correctly".

QUestions:
1) Is this because GMAT cannot work with 64-bit Matlab DLLs?
2) If I try to build 64-bit version of GMAT on my win64 system, will it work? Have anybody tried that?

Please help!
Bharat

Hi Bharat!

As for the answer to your question 1, I do know that GMAT is a 32-bit application, and so will only work with 32-bit MATLAB (though both can be used on your 64-bit Windows 7).

The rules for getting MATLAB working with GMAT are as follows:

1. Install a 32-bit version of MATLAB (2008a and newer have been tested)
2. Make sure MATLAB's portions of the system path are listed first, before anything else
3. Add a new section to the system path pointing to <MATLAB dir>\bin\win32

As for building a 64-bit version of GMAT, I can't help you. Maybe someone else will chime in for that.

Hi Bharat,

GMAT does not support 64 bit windows yet. I know, because I am in the same situation, I have 64 bit Matlab and can't use it with GMAT. I'll talk to our lead developer today about this as she has been working on MATLAB issues this week and might have fresh insight.

Thanks Steve and jjkparker. I better get a 32-bit matlab to continue!
